A few thoughts the expectations associated with online education …
- It suffers the same issue that all information on the web does – the expectation that it is COMPLETE and CORRECT for ALL CASES
- Most education changes (not necessarily disruptions) have initially worked in NICHES or as AUGMENTATION
- CodeAcademy Badges and Google Badges are only an indicator of the number of lessons taken and should not be see as level of academic proficiency nor the practical applicability
This does not mean that technology innovation cannot serve as a huge change agent … it is just that QUALITY (from humans) before SCALE (technology) is essential for success (reminder: the #1 factor in a child’s education is the quality of the teacher)
